Poems With Music
In addition to being a poet, I am a songwriter and have been composing both lyrics and music for songs for decades. Recently, I have begun composing music to play in the background “behind” poems I have written. In live performance, I play the music only, and recite the poem live. I have also recorded both the music and my reading of the poem in a single recording so both can be listened to simultaneously. Some of those are posted here. To listen, just click on the triangle on the left of the “bar” below the Poem title.
In most cases, the Poems With Music, contain the complete lyrics to poems posted elsewhere on the site. In those cases, I am posting a link to the page that poem is on just below the music (you may have to scroll down on the linked page to locate that particular poem). Unfortunately, if you go to that page while the Poem With Music is playing, the recording will stop playing (don’t know how to fix that). If I post a Poem With Music which has poetry that is not elsewhere on this site, I will post the lyrics on this Page.
The music to these Poems With Music is created and recorded using a combination of live instruments which I play and record (eg guitar, piano, some percussion) and licensed, commercially available “loops” (on to a few bars of music created by other – eg, drum beats, percussion, horns, etc) created for use by others in creating compositions, such as often are used in contemporary music from hip hop to pop and even country.
Initially, I am only posting a couple of simple “home demo” recordings, just to illustrate what I am doing. Eventually, these will be replaced, and supplemented, by better quality recordings.
