I am a songwriter who has recently begun a parallel journey into writing screenplays, short fiction, and poetry.
For some presently inexplicable reason, what I write in fiction or in poetic form is, seemingly, far more personal than the songs I write…But is it?
I am often asked, as is the case with my songwriting (link below) as well, whether the “stories” I tell are about me, or my life, or the people around me. My answer, and a truthful one at that, is that they can be about anyone – me, my relations, you – or about no one at all – or about a soufflé of pieces of the lives or stories of multiple people, known or stranger, real or imagined…Maybe they are about all of us…Maybe they are about none of us.
And, sometimes what I write is capable of multiple interpretations, and that is the point.
In the end, what I write (in song or otherwise), and I hope most things in the creative world, and maybe we as people, are about whatever you think they are about…For the same reason, I rarely title my fine art photography or abstract painting (links below). I want the viewer or reader to make their own interpretations.
Because I think short fiction or poetry and lyrics in songs are, at least to some extent, related – even if quite different – I will be posting the lyrics to some of my songs on the Song Lyrics page of this site, as well as a link to my music site below.
I hope you enjoy the journey along with me. And perhaps you will find a relationship, a connection or an emotion of some sort with something I explore…
